Typhoon Quiel - PAGASA Weather Update October 1, 11 a.m.


At 11:00 a.m. today, Typhoon Quiel has made landfall over Dinapigue, Isabela.

Typhoon Quiel is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 40 km North of Casiguran, Aurora (16.7°N, 122.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph and is moving West at 26 kph. It is expected to cross Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet and will exit La Union this afternoon.

Typhoon "Quiel" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon.

Estimated total rainfall over Magat Dam catchment during the passage of Typhoon Quiel is 200-400 mm.

Estimated total rainfall over San Roque Dam catchment areas is 100-150 mm over a period of 24 hrs starting 8 AM today

Estimated total rainfall over Angat Dam catchment due to Monsoon is from 80-100 mm starting later today.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 25 mm per hour within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.
