‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ Celebrates 20th Anniversary via Month-Long Special


A heartwarming treat for the loyal supporters of the the longest-running, drama anthology in Asia.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), the longest-running, top-rating and multi-awarded drama anthology of ABS-CBN, treats its loyal viewers with a month-long special filled with stories that will surely touch their hearts.

MMK has made a legion of fans from different generations cry, laugh, fall in love and be inspired through the real-life narratives of its lettersenders.

Hosted by Charo Santos, MMK has managed to transform itself from a simple drama anthology into a socially relevant program that does not only entertain but also reflect the real struggles and triumphs of the ordinary Filipino people.

In “MMK Dalawang Dekada,” a two-hour documentary special to be aired this Sunday night September 25, at Sunday’s Best, a journey of the show’s success will be recollected. It features how loyal viewers are glued to every MMK episode not only because of the lead stars but more importantly, because of the content of the story and the lessons learned by the lettersenders.

With this overwhelming support from the viewers, MMK presents a five high-caliber stories topbilled by some of the most brilliant actors and actresses in Philippine showbiz today.

In the ‘Palawan’ episode to be aired on October 1, Angel Aquino plays the role of Bogs, a principled mother who gives her all to stop mining in Palawan. But in the middle of her quest, she will face the challenge of blindness and bringing her family back together. Written by Ruel Montanez and directed by Cannes Best Director Brillante Mendoza, ‘Palawan’ also stars Yul Servo, Miles Ocampo, Paul Salas and Isabel Lopez.

Meanwhile, the life story of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2’s tap dancing duo takes the MMK spotlight on October 8 in the ‘Bukidnon-Happy Feet’ episode. It narrates the struggle that brothers Ramon and Bambi had to go through just to reach their dream of getting their family out of poverty. Written by Joan Habana and directed by Dado Lumibao, ‘Bukidnon-Happy Feet’ features John Prats and Nash Aguas as brothers and Ariel Rivera as their father.

Then on the third Saturday of October, October 15, Jake Cuenca will give life to the character of a gay named Louie in the ‘Barcelona’ episode. In the story, Louie strives to do his best to please his father in order to be accepted. Written by Benson Logronio and directed by Dado Lumibao, ‘Barcelona’ also stars Ricky Davao, Vivian Velez and Malou De Guzman.

More surprises are in stored for the last two anniversary episodes which will be aired on October 22 and 29. So don’t dare miss the month-long celebration of the only drama anthology closest to the hearts of Filipinos, Maalaala Mo Kaya, every Saturday night.
