Proving that it is serious in expanding the landscape of sports television, AKTV recently signed up Phil and James Younghusband to be part of the primetime sports channel’s roster of football superstars for the next three years. As star players of the popular Philippine national football team Azkals, the Younghusband brothers will be bringing to AKTV their expertise and influence as they host a series of segments and become the sports channel’s football ambassadors.
Aside from teaching the basics of football on TV to encourage would-be athletes, Phil and James will spread their nutrition and diet advocacy by giving tips on living a healthy and active lifestyle.
The Younghusbands’ new venue of teaching football on television will be a welcome treat for AKTV viewers. As they aim to help viewers appreciate football, the brothers will draw from their years of experience and demonstrate the rules of the game.
The Younghusbands are also seen on AKTV via televised games of the United Football League every Saturday starting at 2 p.m. The two are part of the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, which topped the UFL Cup and is considered a contender for the Cup championship this December.
The brothers’ role on television will not be something new as the two have been giving football lessons to Filipinos around the country via their Younghusband Football Academy (YFA). The YFA began in November 2009, with the brothers teaching football players as well public school teachers around the country. Phil and James are supported by a pool of trainers who have been part of national football teams that competed in international tournaments.
To date, YFA has taught more than 250 teachers from around the country.
On November 11 and 12, the Younghusband Football Academy will be at Lorma Special Science High School in San Juan, La Union where they will conduct a training session for aspiring footballers and mentors.
